2021.12.01 19:28 camohorse About to say goodbye to my dying grandma

I don’t even know what to say or feel. Less than a couple months ago, we found out my paternal grandma (81 years old) had end-stage cancer that started in her hip and spread throughout her body. She is now under the supervision of hospice nurses and family 24/7 at home. Tomorrow, I fly out to say my final goodbyes to her.
We were as close as we could be considering we live states apart and she never wanted to learn how to use the internet. She tells me I’m her favorite granddaughter, and has always loved me just the way I am.
In 2018, my paternal grandpa died. I had a terrible thought in the back of my mind that my grandma wouldn’t live for much longer without him. She remained healthy for a couple years, but then cancer hit and she decided not to pursue chemo or radiation: a decision I respect and understand.
Still, it’s tough. I’m so sad that I physically feel the pain in my chest and joints. I’m terrified of saying my final goodbyes, knowing my grandma is so sick and weak. I’ve never knowingly said my final farewells to a dying family member. Until now.
I’m not sure what to feel or how to react. I’m not sure I will be able to keep it together when I see her.

2021.12.01 19:28 TTT2114 Ancient Technology […]

I think I may have encountered a bug on the Ancient Technology quest from Sorine Jurard. It is telling me to “Retrieve the enhanced crossbow schematic from […].” It does not give me a quest marker or a location to go to. There is no dialog options when talking to Sorine again either. I’ve checked the three locations on Solstheim as I’ve heard it might bug if the location is there and I couldn’t find it. Does anyone have any tips to get around this besides just checking every location the schematic might spawn in?

2021.12.01 19:28 LongjumpingSolid8 Contacted by a recruiter from a large contracting company

This role specifically would be for Facebook. I'm currently a junior engineer working at a local news website. I really love my current job and the team I'm with. The company culture is excellent, the benefits are great, and the salary is competitive for my area. I've only been here a few months, which is a major factor in this consideration as well. I would hate to burn bridges on my way out by leaving so quickly after being hired.
The pay at this contracting company, however, is just over double what I currently make. That is very tempting, especially since tuition payments to my bootcamp are pretty brutal at 15% of my gross. This essentially makes my normally competitive salary something that covers the bills but doesn't offer much in terms of savings or play money. And I can forget about buying a house anytime soon at this current income.
The question I'm asking is if anyone has any experience working for these types of contractors (I'm reluctant to reveal the name of the company in case I accidentally dox myself). I learned a while ago that for me, all the money in the world isn't worth miserable working conditions. I looked them up on Glassdoor and it looks like their benefits aren't excellent but I wasn't able to find much else than that as far as red flags. Any advice would be really appreciated.

This Bill was submitted by the Rt. Hon Earl of Bournemouth AP KBE PC FRS, MP for South East London, on behalf of the Liberal Democrats, and is sponsored by Solidarity and the Labour Party
Opening Speech:
Deputy Speaker,
Today I present a very simple Bill to the House. It is one that will be controversial to many across the House, and something which will be met by criticism from certain sections of society. However, I believe it will address an issue that has been left largely ignored in fear of religious inflammation and freedom of speech concerns.
Abortion is a contentious issue, and it is right we continue to discuss it. But women have the right to choose, and to do so freely. Just this term we’ve seen an attempt by the Conservative Party to weaken abortion law under the guise of “disability rights”. Universities who fundamentally disagree with the views of pro-life societies are forced to accept that there is no legal precedent for not recognising these organisations, while other students are forced to accept that their individual, personal and extremely difficult decision is given the same platform of scrutiny as other protected groups. There remains a large section of society that cannot accept the findings of several Court Sessions, countless medical research, and successive Parliaments who all find that abortion up to 22-24 weeks in the United Kingdom should be legal - and the burden of this is not being felt on us as legislators, but on the women who are accessing these services.
Abortion has been legal in England since 1967 - yet incidents of harassment still occur. Since September 2018, 44 clinics and hospitals around the UK have experienced anti abortion protests. One clinic in Richmond reported receiving 323 written complaints alone from women that they were unable to easily access the abortion services offered without discrimination or duress. According to the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, victimised women are told by anti-abortion protesters to choose life rather than murder. Another example given by the BPAS is one case where a mother said that their daughter, who already suffers from anxiety, was blocked from entering a clinic by protestors forcefully handing out leaflets. Demonstrations on the steps of abortion clinics - a blatant act to create fear and intimidation - remove that right. This form of protest is not about changing the law or putting pressure on us as lawmakers; the case for abortion in this House is fairly open and shut. This form of protest is nothing more than bullying women often when they are at their most vulnerable. No society should permit it.
Our colleagues in the Liberal Democrat-led council in Richmond recently took the decision to open consultations on introducing a “buffer zone”, to ensure distance between protesters and those accessing abortion services. They received over 3,000 responses, of which over 80% of these stated that the behaviour around the clinic had a detrimental effect on them or others in the local area. A 100 metre exclusion zone was implemented in March 2019.
However, I am of the view that this is simply not enough. So far, only Richmond and Ealing Councils have successfully implemented safe zones, due to the quantity of evidence required to create one and prove harassment. In the intervening period until this Bill hopefully becomes law, how many women seeking in abortion will be chased down the street?
The fact remains that access to abortion remains a challenge in our society, not because of legal access or provision, but due to societal stigmas that remain. Put simply, abortion is a medical procedure as well as an ethical dilemma. However, the right to protest abortion should not infringe on a mother who wishes to access these legally-permitted medical services. The issue is not about freedom of speech - those who believe, either for religious or ethical reasons, that abortion law should change should be able to say so - but by allowing this to escalate to a level of hate directed at women, we are being grossly negligent in our job as politicians to not protect these individuals in our society. This Bill will provide a legal means for the courts to tackle blatant discrimination against these mothers. It is long overdue, and this House needs to toughen up and have a strength to pass it despite the empty threats of certain sections of society. This country is a democracy, Deputy Speaker, and the evidence consistently points to a vast majority of people in this country supporting access to abortion. Let us not be cowered by a minority who are concerned with another’s personal decision.
I commend this Bill to the House.
This reading ends on the 3rd December

2021.12.01 19:28 The_Architec How old does a corpse have to be for there to be no murder investigation ?

Saw on Insta the other day that an 800 year old corpse was found in a cave and of course there would be no murder investigation cause it’s way too old but is there a certain age where you no longer treat the corpse as a body but as an archeological artefact is there a rule on age where you don’t have to investigate cause of death or something ?

2021.12.01 19:28 BobbOShea Clinging on to these days

I'm nearing the two week mark. I did a year and a half once, a lifetime ago. And then I took a sip, and the sip took me. So back on the horse, and this time feels different to all the inbetween times. This one feels like the beginning of the year and a half again. Potentially a life time ahead of me. It feels like a struggle, but a commitment. I'm here again. My head hurts. It won't switch off. I'm laying low, white knuckling through these days. The weekend nights are the worst, I feel resentful. But the weekend mornings are bright. The physical cravings are gone, now it's just the fight of my mind. One day at a time, is the only way. IWNDWYT.
